Cryogenic (Cold) Supports
CryoWrap
Our cryogenic supports (CryoWraps) are manufactured to match the diameters of the Aspen Aerogels® Cryogel® Z insulation material. This allows the system to be designed with the piping nested closer together and for seamless transitions from the support to the line insulation. The Cryogel® Z insulation is hydrophobic, preventing any moisture from penetrating the insulation. The vapor stops incorporated into the support’s design at each end also restrict moisture intrusion.
The graphic below indicates a diameter comparison of Cryrogel Z insulation compared to several other materials. All four designs meet the same condensation control criteria.
Similar to the PyroWrap design, this system allows for the “modularization” of the pipe and the option to pre-install all components off-site, or at a safe location on-site. When pre-installed off-site the complete system can then be transported without damage to any components to the jetty or pipeline location. This is proved to be an extremely cost-effective method of construction and facilitates the coordination of the construction schedule.
CryoWrap pipe supports can be fabricated to cover almost all load-displacement configurations.
Rilco CryoWrap pipe supports are applicable for cryogenic environments with temperatures hovering just above absolute zero. The Cryogel® Z insulation material is used widely in the oil and gas processing industry, particularly with pipes containing fluids such as liquid natural gas, liquified petroleum gas, and ethylene. This insulation has the lowest k-value of any cryogenic insulation alternatives.
These products are protected by one or more U.S. and Foreign Patents.
CryoWrap Supports are roughly half the size of traditional cold insulations such as Polyurethane, making them lighter, and therefore, less costly to install. The size reduction is largely due to the efficiency of the Cryogel® Z insulation and the cutting edge design of the support structure.

Polyurethane Shoe
Rilco is among the companies that pioneered modern, industry standard polyurethane pipe supports. These supports are disigned with the latest technology and the highest quality materials. The insulation can be molded to the thickness and layering of process line insulation to ensure proper field fit per ASTM C585. Condensation is eliminated along with any associated field corrosion. Additionally, the design eliminates any temperature fluctuation at support points of process fluid. These designs are customizable to meet a variety of requirements. Please contact us for more details.

Sleeve Design
The Rilco sleeve design is the modern approach to supporting piping which will soon become standard that all other pre-insulated supports are judged by. The sleeve design is referred to as such due to the unique use of steel tubes (sleeves) attached to both the upper and lower support components. The use of the Belleville washers included with the fasteners are the key to the effectiveness of the support design and require the “float” of the fastener within the upper sleeve to manage the expansion and/or contraction while maintaining proper clamping force on the pipe to prevent displacement between the process pipe and the pipe support. Rilco has performed manual calculations, FEA and thermal analysis, and physical testing on these style supports to have the confidence to say that Rilco can design supports that meet your loading, movement and heat loss requirements.
This Rilco standard design includes steel sleeves and Belleville washers. The washers, included in this sleeve design, are engineered to maintain a constant clamping force throughout the pipeline temperature range to accommodate the expansion and contraction of the process pipe.
Bent-Ear Design
The Rilco traditional design of bent ear which is the standard which is currently the accepted standard for the pre-insulated pipe support. This design relies on the elasticity of the formed ear section of the cradle to maintain the clamping force throughout the pipeline temperature range.

Insul-Guided
Insul-Guides are pre-insulated pipe supports fabricated from polyurethane and used for low temperature applications. They function as either a resting or guided support. If being utilized as a guide, the guide load is not to exceed 20% of the vertical load.
- Designed for service temperatures ranging from -425° F to +275° F (-253° C to +135° C).
- Fabricated with carbon steel square bases that are galvanized according to ASTM A653 standards.
- All exposed surfaces of the polyurethane foam are coated with a monolar mastic to protect against any moisture damage.
- Used for most typical applications on flat surfaces but can be modified for specific client requirements.
- Designed for ease of installation and the insulation is cut to match the line insulation.
- The supports are attached to the low temperature pipeline using bands.
- Both single layer and double layer insulation is available. Insul-guides are recommended as a low-cost solution for low-temperature pre-insulated pipe support needs.

Isolation Block
Rilco isolation blocks provide a thermal break. We offer various materials such as Micarta and Polyurethane.
Isolation blocks are designed to meet load requirements while simultaneously thermally isolating the pipeline system or ensuring that the supporting structure does not fall below its design temperature.

Additional Cold Pipe Support Components
Vapor Barrier
The vapor barrier creates a shield against the elements and is essential to the integrity of an effective cold support system.
Protective Mastic
For pipe support installed before installation, protective mastic can be applied to protect the exposed surfaces of the supports from weather condition is installed.
Steel Housing With Base Components
Provides support for insulation section that the clamping force is maintained during all thermal cycles.
Outer Sheet Metal Jacket
The metal jacket is typically wrapped around the insulation section and outside the vapor barrier.
